Black or white
Black Or White
Fiction stories
used to tell us that there are two types of worlds; a world for the good people
and a world for the bad people. We grow up with the idea of dividing everything
in two divisions; good or bad, black or white, them or us.
Our attitude
toward binary thinking is really impressive. In his book ‘Factfulness’, Hans Rosling discussed our binary thinking and most important he discussed how we
divide the world into developed countries and developing counties. He believes
that dividing the world doesn’t make sense anymore. “Most people are in the
middle, there is no gap between rich and poor”, Hans said. You can read the
book to get more details about Hans’s ideas and statistics. But let’s stick for
now to the idea of dividing things and making choices.
Did you ever wonder
what if you belong to the other split? And by splits I mean anything with more
than one side. It’s not about which country or which city you belong to as Hans
discussed. But it’s about which idea or which thought that you believed in, without
looking for the bigger picture. It might be about choosing coffee over tea for breakfast.
Or it might be choosing paper book over e-book. We make choices everyday in
every part of our actions. Choices help
us to make decisions. But are they really helpful? We think that having choices
will make the decisions process easier or faster. But not in all cases, choices
are able to make it more complex and then hard for you to chose.
What if one
choice is what you want and the other is what you need. Which side would you
take?
